My current work explores my relationship to my environment when walking. Using 5.2 m long concertina-style sketch books, my most recent works unfold like a continuous journey. Working outdoors on location, primarily in pen and wash, I aim to capture the unique essence of a place and convey my feelings about it. I am currently nearing completion of my second sketchbook recording the houseboats along Shoreham’s Riverbank. I am just starting a series of fragile sculptures based on the jetties using rusty wire and nails, combined with found materials and papers. I have also produced three books working on location around St Ives in Cornwall.
I have a BA Hons in Embroidery and a post grad in Mixed Media. My abstract paintings, collages and cast paper reliefs explore the essence of being within a landscape but are process led, developing from an exploration of properties inherent in the materials and processes used. Marks and lines are held within the surface, or sanded down to. I am also exploring the idea of traces, paths and journeys and through mark making on plaster using powered graphite, ink, watercolour, oils and wax
