What are Artist Open Houses on the Adur Art Trail?

The Adur Art Collective is an informal group of artists, based in and around Shoreham-by-Sea in Sussex, we work together to present the Adur Art Trail in June each year. We are a not-for-profit artist led community group established to organise, promote, and develop visual arts in Shoreham-by-sea and surrounding area of Adur in Sussex. The collective was formed in July 2010 by a group of artists who were keen to ensure the continuation of the Adur Art Trail in June each year. We have an elected committee that oversees membership and organises the annual art trail. Adur Art Collective (Adur Arts) is an unincorporated association.

Adur Art Trail artist open houses are non-traditional self-curated art spaces, which can be in the artists own home, or in shared public spaces, such as; cafes, churches, galleries, local businesses or group settings. To take part in the Adur Art Trail you must be a member of the Adur Art Collective. Information about membership can be found on our Join Us Page.

Adur Art Trail Participation is Open to

  • Artists with a Venue – Any member artists of the Adur Art Collective with a venue can run an artist open house, during the Adur Art Trail.
  • Artists without a Venue – Any member artists of the Adur Art Collective without a venue can take part in the Adur Art Trail.
  • Artists Venue with Space for other Artists – Any member artists of the Adur Art Collective with a venue, can take part in the Adur Art Trail, and offer space to other artists.
  • An Established Group of Community Partner –  Such as a gallery or houseboat, can take part in the Adur Art Trail.
  • Guest Artists – Can take part in the Adur Art Trail when invited by an existing member and chosen by committee selection.

Benefits of Taking Part in the Adur Art Trail

  • Your venue listed in the Adur Art Trail printed brochure distributed throughout Sussex.
  • Opportunity to join an art trail due to area exclusion from taking part in larger better known art trails.
  • Connect with the public and the local arts community. 
  • Share and market your work directly and in person, enabling you to share your passion.
  • Year round social media campaign on Facebook and Instagram and regular updates from the team.
  • Travel information.
  • Assessibilty information in the brochure.
  • Discounts which run for the duration of the art trail.
  • Advertisting in local arts and culture publications.
  • Art Trail Advertising pack for your venue for the duration of the art trail; including banners, flags, bunting, house number, artist badges. We ask for a small deposit which is returned to you when you return the art trail pack back to us at the end of the Art Trail.
  • Opportunity to join an area art trail, with support from a committee member trail coordinator, if one exists in your area.
  • Street advertsing with large banners.
  • Online information and guides to opening your house.
  • Email advise and support from committee team.
  • Invitations to complete feedback and evalution forms.
  • Annual review at the Adur Art Collective AGM in November.
  • Invitations to previews at other open houses and venues.
  • Chance to shine and really showcase your artwork and skills, if you want to run demos or workshops alongside the Art Trail.
  • Promote your work, the Adur Art Collective and the Adur Art Trail.
  • Gain social skills, by working and collaborating with others.
  • It’s fun and incredibily rewarding.
  • Option to charge commission of sold works if working in a group.
  • Share the cost of opening your house if you work with a group of artists.

Art Trail Registration

Expression of Interest Forms are sent out to all existing members of the Adur Art Collective, by email in December. All artist members and venues must have registered to take part by the end of February.

How to Register

We email Expression of Interest forms to all our members in December. If you wish to take part in the Adur Art Trail simply complete the form, and return it to info@adurartcollective.co.uk along with the additional documents.
