SARAH FER

After a background studying at the Royal College of Art and working as a teacher and textile designer Sarah, became a visual effects artist in the film industry.

Since moving to Shoreham and living near the river and the beach Sarah has worked mainly in paint, mixed media and pen and ink to respond to the landscape and seascape of the south coast.

The estuary of the Adur serves as a metaphor for the flow of life encountering obstacles in its path. When the tide retreats magical islands are revealed  and found beach stones have images of creatures embedded in them (mimetoliths.) Wading birds are another important element, as are smaller natural items such as seaweed and ray egg cases. Her love of travel provides an extra source of inspiration for her artwork.
