Katie Sollohub is a Sussex based artist who is interested in documenting and recording the places she lives and works in through drawings, paintings, performance, photography and poetry.
In 2014 she was awarded a Arts Council England grant to fund her year long residence at JMW Turner’s House in Twickenham, which was subsequently restored, and has been opened to the public since 2017. ‘Being a part of this historic project has been a great privilege and an inspiration for me. It has allowed me to really develop my relationship to place and architecture, and has nurtured a fascination with the area I hope will be long lasting, as I have subsequently been invited to create work in other venues of historic importance, including Pope’s Grotto and Normansfield Theatre’ (KS 2016)
She has shown work from these projects in Twickenham at the Stables Gallery, Orleans House, Richmond in 2015 (A Guest in Turner’s House) and in 2017 (Eternal Sunshine – showing new work from Strawberry Hill House as well as a residency in Tuscany). She has also exhibited in Winchester City Gallery (2017) and Candida Stevens Gallery Chichester (2018). Current projects include visits to West Horsley Place in Surrey.
Her work explores the narrative components surrounding objects, memories, interior and exterior spaces, brought to life with her spectacular use of colour and detail.
Katie is also an inspirational teacher, using her own experiences and processes to help motivate others. She aims to live life as a Creative Journey, and generously takes others along for the ride. She teaches a regular fortnightly class in Shoreham on Thursdays – Creative Journeys in Paint and Mixed Media 9.30-1pm, and Drawing for All from 2-5pm – as well as other workshops, short courses and summer schools in the UK and abroad. See Seawhite Studio for courses nearby in Partridge Green, and Villa Lugara for next year’s week long course in Italy. Alternatively contact Katie on firstname.lastname@example.org for more information on any of the above.
