Susan Pennock

My subject matter is inspired by natural and urban landscape, the elements within these, the way they change over time, and associations we have with them through experience and observation.

I often begin a piece of work on a prepared ground of dark pigment to emphasise tonal contrasts, gradually lightening areas of the composition to create form and add detail – adding and removing material is intrinsic to the subject itself and the composition.

I studied a Fine Art degree in Edinburgh where I was able to explore different ways of working and expressing ideas, including drawing, painting, constructed textiles and installation. Since then I have continued to make and show my work as part of group exhibitions in Sussex and further afield.
