Deryn Bell at Shoreham Art Gallery in March

Sculptor Deryn Bell will be the guest artist at Shoreham Art Gallery in March 2020.

Deryn says:

“I trained originally in stone carving with Mike Chapman in Dorset, then at the Skelton Studio in Street, Sussex, and now have my own studio nearby. More recently I have started to make sculptures in different types of clay which seems to give me more scope for my imagination.

I have an interest in mythology and old stories, and the inspiration for my first hare came from the story of St Melangell, the 7th century patron saint of Hares. I shall be putting this story up on my website when it is complete. My website is at present in the process of being built. I now continue to make hares, owls, dolphins, foxes, phoenix, dragons and geese in both stone and clay. In the past I have always tried to find a story to go with a piece I am making but of late I cannot find the right story so am still searching…

I belong to the Sussex Art Collective and have been exhibiting with them for several years. I sell much of my work through them and also privately. I also exhibit at Michelham Priory.”
