Small works in mixed media -usually acrylic and encaustic on cradled ply.
Annie Hargreaves gained her degree in Ceramics at Camberwell College of Art, but retrained as a Scenic Artist at RADA twenty odd years ago and has never looked back.
The process based nature of scene painting (you have to build up in layers if you're working on an enormous scale) informs the way she creates, even in tiny works.
Her inspiration comes from the small, creased family photos of mid century working class life she spent hours looking at as a child. In using encaustic she hopes to capture the precious, tactile quality of old photos as artifacts of veneration and mystery.
