I have an interest in mythology and old stories, and the inspiration for my first hare came from the story of St Melangell, the 7th century patron saint of Hares.
To relax I work from my studio creating stencil art, lino-printing, painting, write short stories and create miniature sculptures from found objects in my spare time. I suppose I write as an outlet for my creativity, I’m not interested in fame and fortune. What I would like though is to share my work with others.
My mixed media and textile work are a response to what I find in my natural surroundings. Activities around foraging, collecting, experimenting with wet and dry media processes are inspired by a year residency at Sussex Prairie Gardens.
Hilary’s work is high-fired stoneware and reflects her twin inspirations of the Sussex countryside; the Downs and the coastline.
My subject matter is often inspired by my enthusiasm for landscape studies, having gained a degree in Geography in London many years ago.
Most of my work is based on botanic subjects. The plant kingdom is a rich source of intriguing shapes and colours which surprise and delight the eye.
When my wife became ill, I had to find a new hobby that I could pursue indoors. I have always had an interest in art of some form or another (I previously did woodturning), and this was how my pyrography journey began.
The stone is the dominant force and inspiration in Rachael’s work and different stones unconsciously produce their own particular style of work.
Sue Jones will be sharing some work and exhibits following her inspiring Colourious textile holiday to Jaipur, India. 22nd-31st January 2019, free entry. More information on: www.shorehamgallery.co.uk
